About Red Barn

About Red Barn

The Red Barn School tradition is one of parents and teachers working together for the benefit of all the children. The school was established in 1943 and is one of the oldest cooperative nursery schools in the Boston area. It is one of our goals as parents and teachers to accept the responsibility of this tradition and keep it alive for future Red Barn children.

Mission Statement

Red Barn School’s mission is to provide a safe haven in which children grow and learn about themselves and the world around them. Dedicated families and committed staff work together to create a learning environment based on respect and a shared vision for children. Here at Red Barn, children learn they are part of a caring community, a community that both challenges and supports their growth as active learners and as socially conscious and intellectually curious individuals.

History

Established in 1943, the Red Barn School was first held, most appropriately, in a red barn. The first “Red Barn Nursery School” was located at the home of the school’s original founder on Concord Road in Weston. In the 1950s, the school purchased the land where the school is currently located, and the present building was designed and built.
